Buying in Ecuador
At the beginning of 2012 we changed how we work with rural properties i.e. anything over a 15 minute drive from Cuenca. We now work with these properties exclusively on an hourly consulting basis. Our existing rural properties have been de-listed and we no longer receive any commissions from either seller or buyer for sales on any property located more than 15 minutes from Cuenca.
Rural Property consulting is $40 per hour and is billed as the work is being performed. Rather than charging as low as $15 per hour for some things and as high as $160 an hour for high value activities we have chosen to start out the year 2012 with one hourly rate of $40 per hour. The work could be anything from negotiating the price and terms of a rural property purchase to installing fence posts. All transportation time back and fourth to the property is counted as well as time writing emails.
